Innovative Programming Award:
A number of interested applicants have asked for an extension to the deadline.
As a result, OBI is extending the Innovative Programming Award Deadline
to May 13th. If you have already sent a submission and would like to make
changes, please send in any changes by May 13th. For more information

Facilitation Task Force Begins Research:
Have you been wondering how other schools teach their staff facilitation
skills? Do you have an approach to training staff that works great in
your country? At the 2000 World Conference, a group of OB Educators came
together to discuss just these topics and they need your input. Please

Marketing and Sales Project Kickoff!
To better understand what successful schools are doing to market and sell
their programs, the Board of Directors of OBI has begun a research project
on effective marketing and sales strategies lead by Board Member Kelly
O'Dea (Chairman, FCB Worldwide). For more details on this project contact

Best Practices in Outward Bound Management
This project will look at effective management strategies throughout the
OB System. In particular it will combine previous resources such as the
Fundraising Resources, Marketing Resources and Board Resources with new
information on effective management strategies. The goal: create a holistic
look at how Outward Bound Leaders are successful. This project will be
lead by OBI Board Member Brooks Wilson. For more information on this project

Have you ever wanted to hear more about other staff and student experiences?
Are you looking for stories to share about Outward Bound to your students?
After the 2002 Staff Symposium, Natalie Welsh from Outward Bound New Zealand
decided to start the Outward Bound version of "Chicken Soup for the
Soul" (or Chook Soup as they say Down Under). If you have a story

offer Safety Database:
Over the last 10 years Outward Bound Australia has developed an excellent
safety management database that helps schools track incidents and near
miss information. Through a collaboration between OBI and OBA the database
is now available to schools around the world. If you would like more information
or to inquire about receiving the database, please contact OBI

At the end of April, John Read was chosen as the new President of OB USA.
John has many years of committed service to Outward Bound and served as
on the Board of North Carolina Outward Bound School. Congratulations and

Successful OBI Board Meeting in Bermuda:
Outward Bound Bermuda was the host of the recent OBI Board Meeting. The
meetings were productive and many new initiatives will be undertaken by
OBI as a result. Many thanks to Mark Norman and the Ace Foundation for
their hospitality during the meetings.
