Outward Bound Australia:

Discover Australia! That's what you'll do if you participate in any of the diverse course offerings at Outward Bound Australia. Since its founding in 1956, this school has made a concerted effort to operate in all the rich wilds of this vast country. Their National Base is in the exhilarating Brindabella and Tidbinbilla Ranges, filled with a variety of wildlife, clear mountain rivers, expansive forests and spectacular rock climbing sites.

Spreading south and more than 4000 km North and West from there, their mobile operations utilize up to 18 other operational areas. Programs operate in Australia's Highest Mountain (Mt. Kosciuszko), the rugged mountains and temperate forests of Victoria, the tropical rainforests of far Northern Queensland, the arid deserts and spectular gorges of Northern Territory and the ancient Tingle and Karri forests on the rugged headlands of Western Australia. In addition OBA has international programs that partner with other Outward Bound Schools. Students can take courses that include caving, bush walking, ropes confidence courses, rock climbing, abseiling, whitewater rafting, canoeing, and more.

Australia has long been the exemplar in providing experiences that stimulate lasting personal development. They serve schools, students with special needs, corporations, families, cross-cultural and indigenous groups, outdoor professionals and the general public with their courses. To maintain their leadership in the field of Outdoor education, they have done extensive research in the outcomes of their courses and they are a nationally Registered Training Organization for Outdoor Education professionals.

What students say about Outward Bound Australia:

Completing Outward Bound has given me a huge boost towards being able to achieve my goals and given me a quiet inner belief in myself that hadn't surfaced before.

Definitely an experience, learning process, and lots of fun. My advice for anyone even half considering taking part is to 'just do it' as hard as you can. The more you want from it the more you will get out of it.

Every day I shared with my son was a new "once in a lifetime" experience. I learnt so much more about my son, the wilderness and my own capabilities than I ever expected.
Participant in a Father and Son course

It was like a lifetime of experiences/lessons compressed into two weeks. I used every sense, every skill, every limb, every milligram of energy in the shortest space of time possible. I know that this was more than an educational experience because when I try to explain the activities/learning to others, I often can't find the words.

It's just been one of the most incredible experiences I've ever had. Things that I'd never really contemplated doing before, here I was in the middle of the Snowy River doing it. I just couldn't believe it! Developmentally challenged student from an OBA Discovery Course
