Outward Bound Hong Kong

As the mist lifts over Tai Mong Tsai, the Headquarters of Outward Bound Hong Kong, shadows of peaks, glittery coastline filled with sea caves and stunning beaches appear. On any given day at Outward Bound Hong Kong you can see youth and adults of all walks of life challenging themselves as they learn to navigate the waters in kayaks and sailboats. You may also see students taking risks on the high ropes events, struggling to climb up a rock or mountain, and pushing each other to build the best, most effective raft to set out onto the water.

Outward Bound Hong Kong has a rich tradition of integrating personal growth and development with group leadership and teamwork. One recent 24-year old graduate describes this integration well: "This was a rewarding journey of discovery. I discovered the beauty of nature, the power and enjoyment of teamwork, the skills of problem-solving, true friendship, my own strengths and weaknesses, proper attitudes towards other people and my potential."

Adventures at Outward Bound Hong Kong range from 5-15 days. Courses at Tai Mong Tsai have incorporated a wide range of training facilities. At their more remote center, Wong Wan Chau Adventure Base, participants can catch a glimpse of the wild beauty, peace and tranquility of the Southern End of Double Haven in Mirs Bay. Every year, OB Hong Kong organizes international adult courses to such places as Malaysia, Philippines, Japan, Nepal, Europe or America.

Following the early work in 1995, they began a new Outward Bound School in China in 1998. Outward Bound Hong Kong is now working to develop this into a fully self-sustaining stand alone operation.

What students say about Outward Bound Hong Kong:

"I have spent half of my life running for money and power. This course gave me many chances to review my life and search for other values which are more important. It made me more human. I was happy to reaffirm parts of myself that were perhaps slipping in the hectic financial whirl of Hong Kong. I now have the confidence and enthusiasm to include creativity in my life and begin to see my life possibilities."
-- A 38-year-old participant on Intertouch Course (Public Course) in 2000

"I fully experienced the power of team spirit. Without the support and encouragement from team mates, I would not have gone through the programme. I treasured the trust and care among team members, and realised the critical elements and techniques to achieve an effective team. More than that, the excellent leadership qualities of some team members impressed me and I learned a lot from them. This was the most memorable, rewarding and challenging experience in my life!"
-- A 32-year-old participant on Leadership & Team Development Course (Public Course) in 1999
